Lipase

  • Medical benefits

Lipase is an enzyme that deserves to be included in numerous studies and experiments. Although its main purpose is already known, it has many benefic effects different from those regarding fats’ hydrolysis.

A placebo-controlled, double-blind human trial demonstrated that supplements with lipase as active substance taken during meals or right before would minimize the symptoms of digestive problems in patients found in hospitals. The experiment lasted 8 weeks and gastrointestinal symptoms were visibly improved, such as bloating, nausea, gas, abdominal pain, vomiting, heartburn and loss of appetite.

Another study found that lipase taken in high doses stabilizes fat digestion in over 63% of patients with pancreatic diseases. Additionally, lipase even reversed pancreatic illnesses in dogs.

An in vitro study made in 2002 showed how the substrate prehydrolysis is influenced by the human gastric lipase. The human pancreatic lipase is immediately activated by the fatty acids, so the gastric lipalysis seems to be very important for the dietary lipid digestion.
